It is 1200BC, deep in the heart of the South American jungle. You can hear the noises of the insects and animals filling the night air around you. You sit in a circle with your tribe. The shaman leads you all, telling you to slow your breathing, to go within. A delicious chocolatey, spicy smell rises from the pot boiling in the centre of the circle. As the shaman chants louder, cups of the earthy cacao drink are passed around circle. Everyone takes part in drinking amounts of the potion, revered as sacred by the Aztecs and Mayans. The ceremony moves into its phases of setting intentions, a sound bath, connecting with each other, singing, chanting and finally dancing with complete abandon as you complete the meditative journey, healing yourself, connecting with the others in the tribe, the jungle, the sky and the universe beyond...
Cacao is known and revered as the great heart opener, beautifully supported by the heart activating bioactive compound theobromin. With 5000 years of ceremonial history in the Americas with the indigenous people, cacao ceremonies are now becoming more widely practiced in our own society. People looking for a deep meditative experience, looking to focus, rejuvenate or enter on a journey of self discovery can find ceremonies to attend, or hold them themselves. Each facilitator brings their own wisdom to the ceremony and each ceremony may follow a different format or have a specific intention. If you are interested in attending a Cacao Ceremony we can highly recommend the lovely Kelly from Conscious Collab, check out her Facebook page here.
